Leaving home and getting to Certaldo

The medieval village of Certaldo Alto is a true gem and gains a unique charm during sunsets. A simple stroll along its narrow alleys is enough to breathe the peculiar atmosphere that dominates here. You can choose to stay here in the medieval part, in one of the restaurants within the walls, or to go back to the Hotel to relax before heading out to dinner in one of the restaurants in the modern part of Certaldo.
You can take your pick; the Reception of Hotel Certaldo is open 24/7!

After having booked directly with Hotel Certaldo at the best offer available, upon arrival our Staff will be glad to give you many suggestions to spend a lovely weekend. You will be staying in a beautiful room, furnished with taste and provided with all the comforts, inside what used to be an old watermill, belonging to the Medici family and recently restored and turned into Hotel Certaldo!

Day 1: a morning dip into culture visiting Certaldo Alto

After having seen it the night before, the medieval town of Certaldo Alto deserves a visit in daylight to appreciate its buildings, some of which are of historical importance. The local Museum Pass will allow you to visit Boccaccio’s House, the Palazzo Pretorio, the Museum of Beppe Chiodo and the Museum of Sacred Art. The funicular that connects lower and modern part of the town to the old and medieval town is located in Piazza Boccaccio, the town’s main square, only a few steps away from Hotel Certaldo.

If you prefer, you can also reach the parking located behind the old city walls of Certaldo Alto and leave your car there. Please ask the Reception Staff for more information.

For your lunch, we recommend one of the restaurants in the medieval village.

Afternoon relax at Terme della Via Francigena

The guests of Hotel Certaldo enjoy a special discount on specific treatments at the Spas Terme Della Via Francigena in Gambassi Terme, only 10 minutes by car from Hotel Certaldo. A cozy and intimate place where you can choose whether to relax in the Wellness Path Area or try some of the treatments offered. Allow our Staff at Hotel Certaldo to advise you the best place for your dinner; there are plenty of trattorias and nice restaurants around us where you can try the milestones of local Tuscan cuisine!

Day 2: a visit to San Gimignano

The Manhattan of Middle Age, this place owes its name to the high medieval towers that dot the historical centre. San Gimignano can be enjoyed at its best during the morning, when it is still free of the large tourist groups strolling along its tiny streets. If historical sites such as the Duomo, the Palazzo Civico or the Casa Torre Campatelli do not look appealing to you, just take a leisurely walk along the streets of this magical place, pacing your way through the park of the Rocca to reach the Museum Of Vernaccia White Wine, the most famous local product here, together with saffron.  Lunchtime in San Gimignano offers a wide array of restaurants, trattorias or places where to grab a bite or taste a bruschetta with extra virgin olive oil.

Oh no, time to get back!

It you are heading south, we advise to have a quick stop at Monteriggioni, a tiny medieval village where, as soon as you walk through the gates, you are taken back in time. The village is still encircled in its original city walls, upon which it is still possible to walk along the town perimeter.

If you are heading north, consider a stop in the town of Vinci to visit the birthplace of the genius Leonardo Da Vinci, his native house and the Museo Leonardiano, where the machinery and projects of the master are on display for everyone to comprehend. The museum also carries on many remarkable activities for groups and children alike.

While traveling back home, your eyes still full of the beauty of this part of Tuscany and still feeling the sense of relaxation given only by its landscapes…you will be longing to come back here and see the many hidden corners that this part of Valdelsa still has to show you.

And here at Hotel Certaldo we will be glad to have you back! See you soon!
